The County Clerk holds birth and death records for Caldwell County and issues certified copies. Requests are handled by the Official Public Records Division — (512) 398-1804.

Come to the Clerk's office at 1703 S. Colorado St., Box 1, Suite 1200, Lockhart, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Bring valid photo identification. Payment is by business check, cashier's check, money order or credit card — cash is not accepted.
By mail
Mailed applications must be notarized
Every mailed application for a certified copy of a birth or death certificate must be signed in front of a notary public. This has been required since September 1, 2015 under Texas Health and Safety Code § 191.0031. An application that arrives without a notary's seal cannot be processed and will be returned.
