Property Fraud Alert

Preventing mortgage fraud and identity theft is a priority for the Caldwell County Clerk's office. It is unfortunately easy for someone to record a fraudulent deed that makes it appear they own your home — and then to borrow against it or attempt to sell it to an unsuspecting buyer.

Property Fraud Alert is a free service that watches the county's recorded documents for you and notifies you, by email or by phone, whenever something is recorded under your name.

Go to PropertyFraudAlert.com, choose Begin Here, complete the registration form and submit it. You choose whether alerts come by email or by phone. There is no cost.

For help registering, call Property Fraud Alert at 1-800-728-3858. For questions about a document recorded in Caldwell County, call the Official Public Records Division at (512) 398-1804.

An alert is a warning, not a correction

Property Fraud Alert tells you that a document was recorded. It cannot stop a filing or undo one. If an alert shows something you do not recognise, contact the County Clerk and consider speaking with an attorney — this office cannot give legal advice.
