This is a brief summary of discussion and action highlights of the Aug. 27, 2026  regular commissioners court meeting. See full agendas and official meeting minutes and watch full video of the meetings.

  • Commissioners voted to extend the countywide burn ban for another two weeks. Hector Rangel, the chief EMC of the Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management, said the ban should continue until the area experiences significant rainfall as average KBDI numbers continue to climb toward the threshold for drought.
  • Commissioners approved an order for early voting and Election Day voting locations and hours for the Nov. 3, 2026 election. Caldwell County will have 15 polling locations on Election Day. The full, final list will be published on the Caldwell County Elections website after the order is signed. The final list will have one change from the draft included in Item 11, Exhibit B in the Aug. 27 commissioners court agenda. Following a thorough discussion, commissioners voted unanimously to retain St. Mark United Methodist Church at 600 E. Live Oak St. as the polling location for Precinct 401 rather than assigning that precinct to First Baptist Church as recommended by the elections administrator. There is one change from the previous general election: Voters in precincts 201, 202 and 206 will vote at the Luling Civic Center — a change that 74% of voters surveyed in those precincts supported. View the signed order.
  • Commissioners voted to propose to maintain the existing tax rate of 43.91 cents per $100 property valuation for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. A formal vote to set the tax rate is expected in September.
  • Accepted a $3.8 million award from the Texas Historical Commission for the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program for the restoration of the Caldwell County Courthouse.
  • Approved the final draft of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Master Development Services. The county needs to make investments in infrastructure over the next several years and is looking to enter into an agreement with an individual, firm or corporation to guide the process from concept to completion. Submissions are due by 2 p.m. Oct. 1.
