This is a brief summary of discussion and action highlights of the Sept. 10, 2026 regular commissioners court meeting. See full agendas and official meeting minutes and watch full video of the meetings.
- Caldwell County Veteran Services Officer Sara Love announced on Thursday, Sept. 10 that the Caldwell County Vets First grant available through the Texas Veterans Commission had received funding for the second consecutive year, presenting a $100,000 check at that day's regular meeting. The grant provides assistance to veterans and their families with various financial burdens, including past due utilities, rent, vehicle and mortgage payments as well as groceries, gas, and car repairs. Commissioners voted to accept the grant.
- Citing unknowns about the program's future, commissioners voted not to accept a $100,000 award from the Office of the Governor for the Operation Lone Star Grant Program.
- Commissioners voted to leave the countywide burn ban on for another two weeks.
- Commissioners voted to adopt the FY 2026-2027 budget and 2026 Tax Rate. The tax rate will remain at 43.91 cents per $100 property valuation for the second consecutive year. The final approved budget will be posted to the county website later this month.
- Commissioners voted to contract Mark Kennedy with the county on civil matters while it continues its search for a new in-house civil attorney to serve the county.
- Commissioners approved moving to an internally built county official website. The move is expected to allow for more features and help facilitate meeting accessibility requirements while avoiding rising vendor rate increases.
- Commissioners approved the 2027 Sheriff and Constable Service Fees.
- Commissioners authorized the county judge to execute a commercial letter of intent regarding the county’s proposed purchase of .62 acres at 215 Bufkin Lane in Lockhart. The building could potentially be used to create more office space for county employees.
