3. Where should the county send the money?

If your claim is approved, this is where the check is mailed. It does not have to match the address the county has on record. If you do not have a fixed address, leave this blank and say so below — the Treasurer’s office will arrange another way.

4. How the county knows it is yours

Four digits only — the last four. Never type a whole Social Security number anywhere on this form; the county does not need it. The record holds the number of the person named, not yours, so give theirs if you know it. It goes to the Treasurer’s office alone, is never shown on the public list, and you can leave this blank.

A maiden name, a married name, or a spelling the county might have used.

A month and year is enough — for example, August 2021.

A sentence or two is enough. Useful things to say: that you are the person named and where you were living at the time; or that the person named has died, when, and how you are related to them; or a name you used to go by.

There is no charge for making this claim, and the county will never ask you to pay a fee to release your money. Nobody may charge you more than 10 percent of what is recovered for telling you about it — Texas Property Code § 76.506.
